Encrypted Communications
Gallagher’s system communications offers 128 bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption of data communicated over the network (although higher levels are available). This includes communications between the Gallagher Command Centre server and Gallagher Controllers and peer-to-peer Controller communications.
IP-based, encrypted network communications between the Gallagher Command Centre software and Gallagher field Controllers (6000, 3000, 5000GL) uses an industry-leading level of encryption of up to 256 bit AES symmetric encryption and RSA-1024 bit authentication.
Gallagher Field Controllers (6000, 3000 and 5000GL)
Gallagher Controllers make all the access decisions in the field – a distributed intelligence that enables uninterrupted system operation even when the server is offline.

Access Control Readers
Access card reading is protected by Cardax IV data format with only licensed individuals able to create cards for sites. Issue levels are also supported.
Features and Benefits:
• Custom site keys are supported when used with MIFARE Plus and MIFARE DESFire EV1 cards
• ‘Heartbeat’ monitoring ensures reader status can be monitored in real time and status reports can be generated. An alarm is raised at the Command Centre workstation if the reader stops communicating with the field Controller
• MIFARE Enhanced Security (MES) options prevent and detect cloning attempts
• Gallagher readers use the proven Cardax IV reader communications delivering enhanced reader security through encryption and monitoring of the data between the reader and Controller.
Gallagher’s facility code management delivers unique facility code issue worldwide.
With Cardax IV proprietary format, enhanced data protection is achieved via:
• Encoding of issue level and region code in addition to facility code and card number, providing unique card data across global card databases
• Eight bit error detection protocol, ensuring that the reader correctly identifies the card being presented.
Supported Card Technologies
Gallagher readers support multiple card technologies including 125 kHz, MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Plus and MIFARE DESFire EV1.
MIFARE DESFire EV1 format implements the strong AES 128 bit data encryption standard to ensure data security. Custom site keys are supported when used with MIFARE Plus and MIFARE DESFire EV1 cards.
